XML Formatter

Format or minify XML — paste it in, choose indent size, get clean output

Paste raw XML into the editor or upload a .xml file using the Upload button. A Web Worker handles the formatting off the main thread so large documents don't freeze the page. The indent dropdown offers 2 spaces, 4 spaces, or tabs. The Minify toggle strips all whitespace and collapses the document to a single line — useful when you need to shrink a config file or API payload before shipping. The formatter also runs a basic tag-balance check and flags malformed XML with an error message that names the problem.

What to do when the formatter reports an error

The error message shows the exact nature of the imbalance — for example, mismatched tag count or missing closing tag. Fix the line it calls out, re-paste, and click Format again. Once the output is valid, the Copy button puts it on your clipboard and the Download button saves it as a formatted .xml file. The syntax highlighter in the output panel colour-codes tags, attributes, and text content so the structure is easy to scan at a glance.
