Why "Save as PDF" in Word and this tool produce different results sometimes
Word's built-in "Save as PDF" on Windows uses the operating system's print driver. On Mac it uses macOS print infrastructure. Both are tightly coupled to the fonts installed on that specific machine. If you open the PDF on a different computer and the font isn't there, the PDF viewer substitutes something else and the layout shifts. This converter runs LibreOffice on the server, which embeds fonts into the PDF file itself during conversion. The resulting PDF looks the same on every device regardless of what fonts are installed locally.
What carries through and what occasionally needs a tweak
Paragraph styles, fonts, images, tables with borders and merged cells, headers and footers, page numbers, footnotes, and multi-column layouts all come through cleanly for standard Word documents. The situations that sometimes need a look after conversion: documents that used third-party Word add-ins to place content, files that relied on Windows-only display features in Office 365, and very old .doc files that have accumulated tracked-changes markup over many years. For most office documents — reports, contracts, CVs, proposals — the output is accurate and ready to send.
Watermark and password options
Watermark text prints diagonal text across every page of the PDF. Type something like DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL in the field before converting. Useful for review copies you don't want circulated as final. Password locks the PDF with an open password — anyone who receives the file will need to enter it before the PDF viewer opens the document. Leave both fields empty if you just want a clean PDF with no restrictions.
