Unlock PDF

The tool runs entirely in your browser using PDF.js. The PDF is decrypted on your device; neither the file bytes nor the password are sent to a server. Once the password is accepted locally, the tool writes a new PDF with the security dictionary removed — the output file opens in any viewer without a password prompt.

Two types of PDF lock

Open password

Prevents the document from loading at all. You must supply this password for the tool to decrypt the file. If you don’t know it, the tool cannot proceed — there’s no bypass for a correctly-encrypted file you don’t have the key to.

Permission restrictions

Allows the file to open but disables printing, copying, or editing. These are removed without requiring the owner password — the client-side decryption strips the permission flags alongside the encryption wrapper.

After unlocking

Download the unlocked PDF and verify it opens without a password prompt before discarding the original. The unlocked copy has no protection at all — if you need partial restrictions back, use the Protect PDF tool on the unlocked copy to set a new password with only the restrictions you want.
