Why SVG files don’t just “work” everywhere
SVG is great for web and design work, but a lot of everyday apps and platforms simply don’t accept it. Try attaching an SVG to an email or uploading it to Facebook, and it either gets blocked or displays as a broken icon. Converting to JPG turns your vector graphic into a regular image file that opens in anything — from Windows Photo Viewer to WhatsApp.
What happens to transparent parts
JPG can’t store transparency — every pixel has to be a solid colour. So if your SVG has areas with no fill, or shapes set to fill="none", those areas get painted white before the JPG is saved. If you need transparency to stay, export to PNG instead and it’ll be kept.
Quality setting — what to actually pick
- 85–100
- You can’t see any difference from the original on screen. Files are larger but worth it if this is for print or professional use.
- 60–84
- Tiny artefacts appear if you zoom right in on flat colour areas, but completely fine for web and social media.
- Below 60
- The blocky compression starts to show clearly, especially around hard edges and text. Only use this if you really need a tiny file size.
