How to Pull Specific Pages Out of a PDF Without Touching the Original

Type individual page numbers separated by commas (3, 7, 12), enter ranges with a hyphen (5-9), or mix both in one field (1, 5-9, 14). The output PDF uses the order you specify — listing pages as 10, 3, 7 produces a three-page file in that sequence regardless of their positions in the source. You can also click thumbnails in the visual picker if you need to browse content to find the right pages.

Note on numbering: the extractor uses file position numbers, not printed page numbers. If your PDF has Roman numerals for front matter, page "i" might be file position 2 (if there is a cover before it). When in doubt, use the thumbnail view.

Quality and Content Preservation

Extraction copies raw page objects without re-encoding them. Embedded fonts, image resolution, vector graphics, and text formatting are identical to the source. Text stays searchable. Internal hyperlinks that point to URLs continue to work. Internal links that pointed to pages not included in the extraction may not resolve — that is expected when the target page is absent from the new file.

Scanned PDFs and Password-Protected Files

Scanned PDFs are image-based, and extraction works the same way: the image data copies into the new file at its original resolution. If the scanned document was already OCR'd before you extracted, the text layer carries through. If not, run the extracted file through the OCR tool afterward.

For password-protected PDFs, enter the open password when prompted and extraction proceeds normally. Files with owner-password restrictions (no open password needed) can usually be extracted without intervention.
