MAC Address Lookup Tips
- • OUI Database: First 3 bytes identify the manufacturer (Organizationally Unique Identifier)
- • Format Flexibility: Enter MAC in any format - colon, hyphen, dot notation, or plain hex
- • Vendor Detection: Instantly identify device manufacturer from network adapters
- • Address Analysis: See unicast/multicast type and local/universal administration
- • Network Troubleshooting: Perfect for identifying devices on your network
Paste any MAC format — it figures out the notation and strips the separators itself
You're usually coming from an ARP table, a switch log, or a DHCP lease file, and the MAC is in whatever format that device decided to use. Colon-separated, hyphen-separated, Cisco dot notation, or just 12 hex characters with no separator — all of them work. The lookup extracts the first six hex digits, checks them against the built-in IEEE OUI table, and returns the vendor name and country. If the address is from a phone or a laptop with MAC randomisation turned on, the OUI won't match anything in the registry. That's not a bug — the Administration field in the result will tell you it's locally administered rather than universally administered, which is the giveaway that it's a randomised address.
The Available Formats section saves a separate conversion step
Below the vendor result there's a panel that shows your input address written in all five standard notations at the same time: IEEE colon, Windows hyphen, Cisco dot-grouped, Linux lowercase colon, and plain uppercase hex. This comes up more than you'd think — you pull a MAC from one system in one format and need to put it into another system that expects a different format. Rather than going to a separate converter, it's just there. The copy button next to each line picks up exactly that notation, nothing extra.
