Compressing HEIC keeps the file as HEIC — no conversion happens
A lot of tools that claim to “compress” your iPhone photos actually just convert them to JPEG behind the scenes. This one doesn’t. The output is still a real HEIC file, which means your metadata — GPS location, capture time, camera model, aperture — stays intact. The Live Photo link, wide-colour profile, and depth data all survive the process too.
What stays exactly the same after compression
- Photo dimensions — a 4032×3024 photo stays at that exact size
- EXIF data including GPS coordinates, timestamp, and lens info
- Colour profile — Display P3 and Wide Gamut are kept as-is
- The .heic extension — the file opens in Photos and iCloud without any issues
How much smaller will it get?
- Quality 85–95
- Barely any visible change from the original; about 15–25% smaller. Good when quality is the top priority.
- Quality 70–84
- No difference you’ll notice on a phone or laptop screen; 35–55% smaller. This is the sweet spot for email and cloud backup.
- Quality 50–69
- Edges look slightly soft if you zoom all the way in; 55–70% smaller. Fine for web thumbnails, not great for printing.
- Below 50
- You’ll see blocky patches on areas with flat colour. File is under 500KB for most 12MP shots. Only use this if you really need the smallest possible size.
